Wintry Wykeham provides a warm Yorkshire welcome for AGA - Yorkshire girls shine yet again

Guest blog by Sara Ashby-Arnold of Country Warmth
It was a busy weekend of pointing for AGA and I'm delighted to say that Sara was only too pleased to help us out again with another guest blog from Yorkshire.

The majestic setting of the Dawnay Estate was the venue for the Derwent Hunt Point-to-Point on Sunday 4th March and the old turf looked set to take a beating with horse boxes being towed on to the course from the very start.
Michael gets ready for action
After continuous drizzle which was interrupted only by the occasional snow shower, the going was officially given as soft by the end of the third race. The conditions were such that by the end of the day those hardy individuals left standing were even wearing this seasons must have accessory ... 'mud', and they probably needed towing out, even those that were on foot!
Is there anyone brave enough to venture out for a bet?
In true Yorkshire style the hospitality was exceptional. Never have we seen such a splendid hospitality tent, it was lined in silk, and the tables were groaning under the weight of plates of home made cakes. Seasonal blooms and twinkling candles graced the dining area, and as the afternoon got darker we needed the candles just to read the race card!
Cake, cake and more cake!
Now to the big race of the day for us, and with Jacqueline Coward lying in fifth place in the national AGA Total Control Lady Riders' Championship it was all to play for. The other Easterby descendant, Joanne Mason, was having a great day, and was a certainty to put pressure on her relative.
Sam and Harry - a great partnership
In the end however, it was the diminutive Sam Drake on her own Optimistic Harry that put in a very polished performance to take the 10 points, with Joanne second and Jacqui having to be content with a third place on this occasion.
Yorkshire lasses
Lucy Bell survived a tumble from 'Whispering Death' and shivered on to our stand for a warming cup of soup. We even persuaded her to have a photo taken proving that not only was she still in one piece, but that not even her mascara had moved ... apparently Lancome's finest for those that need to know!

Lets hope everybody dries out in time for our next AGA Ladies Open Race at Dalton Park on 11th March.
