That was the season that was ... AGA style! Part 3

As the countdown continues towards the start of the new season a thought occured to me, why not pen a review of the 2011/12 AGA Ladies Open Series. It presents a good opportunity to set the scene for what I am sure is going to be another exciting series, and also gives me a chance to post some more of Beazo's superb photos.

The AGA Series and the inaugural AGA Total Control Lady Riders' Championship reached a thrilling climax at Cheltenham in May, but during the preceeding five months there were lots of memorable moments and great performances in the saddle. The story continues in the sunshine at Milborne St Andrew ...

Milborne St Andrew - Wilton
A second visit of the season to Milborne St Andrew saw a title challenge from Chloe Boxall briefly flicker into life with an impressive 6 length win on Armoury House.
Armoury House was as impressive in the winners enclosure as he was on the track and this photo is another qualifier for "if only they could talk".

Hackwood Park - Hampshire Hunt
Two things of note happened today, Hannah Lewis started to believe that she could win the AGA Championship, and Mrs S walked the course for the first time this season!
A beautiful spring day, a cracking ladies open race, and a very well organised meeting combined to make this a day to remember, we'll certainly be looking forward to a return visit in 2013.
Horseheath - Puckeridge
The title challenges were coming thick and fast now and we had another one spark into life today as Bridget Andrews and Maranach got the better of Louise Allan and Bavard Court.
I tried something different today and walked the course during the mens open ... a unique experience!
Hornby Castle - Bedale
Jo Mason beat cousin Jacqueline Coward to win the AGA ladies open on Blandings Castle, in what was our fourth visit to Yorkshire this season.
A warm welcome greeted Jo as she entered the winners enclosure after the race, she then joined Michael Ashby-Arnold from Country Warmth in Malton on the AGA stand to receive her clock.
Sandon - North Staffordshire
The Claire Hart title charge really started to hit top gear today with a second AGA ladies win of the season for Palypso De Creek.
Harty had been bullish about P's prospects earlier in the week and her confidence proved to be justified as the pair delivered a three and a half length win over Mad Victor, with Claire's good friend Sue Sharratt in the plate.
 Paxford - North Cotswold
Jane Williams fought back in the title race as she and Shernally romped through the Easter Monday rain and mud to record a 10 length win, in the process giving the popular Dick Baimbridge his 500th win.
Masterchef runner up Andrew Kojima was on hand to present the obligatory bottle of champers to a delighted Dick, who was joined by co-owner Graham Fisher to receive his fabulous AGA clock, along with the impressive trophy.
Ystradowen - Ystrad Taf Fechan
It was Claire Hart's turn again today as she steered odds on favourite Lady Myfanwy to a two and a half length victory over close pal Hannah Lewis and Avesomeofthat.
Tabley - Cheshire Forest
The see-saw battle at the top of the table continued today as Jane Williams chalked up another win, this time aboard Swift Counsel. Power Shared put in a beautiful round of jumping ... the only problem being that most of it was without Claire Hart - although the pair would make amends the following week.
Chaddesley Corbett - Worcestershire
Claire made it four perfect 10's with another win on Lady Myfanwy to draw level with Jane at the top of the AGA Total Control Lady Riders' Championship on 46 points - with only one AGA ladies race to go.
Littlewindsor - Seavington
I called Jane Williams as we left the course to let her know the result and the reply is unprintable. The reason for that is because Claire had bagged another win, this time on Power Shared, taking her to a maximum of 50 points, 4 points clear of Jane heading into the final at Cheltenham.
A clever plan had been executed, leaving no time for Claire's challengers to close the gap with just over a week to go until the final at Cheltenham. Connections were understandably delighted and their delight led to one of the infamous "lorry parties", which continued all the way back up the M5 to Chipping Camden.

And there we have it, a thrilling end to a fabulous series of qualifiers, with even more excitement to come at Cheltenham ... can we do it all over again this season?
